Josh GreenbArg is a writer and producer whose work spans studio features and TV comedy, with film credits on The Watch, Brüno, and Vanguard, and television credits including Farzar and Paradise PD for Netflix, plus writers room work on The Goldbergs. His process is built on stripping everything down to intention. No ornament. No detours. Just the spine of the scene and whether it moves. We talked about how he builds that clarity. He doesn't waste words.

What’s the first thing you tweak when a joke isn’t working?

Clarity.

How do you keep a scene moving when you’re writing fast?

The characters are trying to achieve their goals and either they get closer or further away in this scene.

What tells you a line earns its spot?

It moves story and is funny.

What’s a draft habit you’ve trained yourself to catch early?

If the writing is fast, trust it.

When something finally works, what usually changed?

Clarity.

For Josh, clarity is the point. The invisible work is stripping the scene to what actually moves.
